Different Versions of Poker

You may not be very familiar with all the casino games available in real and virtual casinos, but the one game you definitely are familiar with and almost everyone knows a few things about is poker. Poker is, without any doubt, the most popular casino game and the only poker related thing you may not be familiar with yet is its variants.

ccording to gambler’s opinions and to several statistics, Omaha 8 or better is one of the most popular and profitable poker variant. In Omaha 8 or better, the player who has the highest hand and the player with the lowest qualifying hand at the shutdown split the pot.

Texas Hold’em from Intertops casino is just as popular as Omaha Poker and you can play it both in televised tournaments or while just sitting at the table. Omaha Poker is pretty similar with Texas Hold’Em, the only difference is that here players are dealt four hole cards at the beginning, instead of two. At the end, they must use only two cards to complete a hand. The reason why many people don’t win at this game is because its rules seems so easy to them that they overlook this apparently unimportant aspect, which is in fact the key to understanding the game.

Other very popular and widely dealt poker variations are 7 card stud and 5 card stud, where, as the game titles suggest, the players are dealt 7 or 5 cards face down. They are both very easy to play. In 5 card stud, the players put in the ante as the game begins and each player is dealt five cards face down. A round of betting takes place and then the players can discard up to three cards and replace them with the same number of cards from the deck. After another round of betting everyone shows their cards and the highest hand wins the pot.

Chicago is another poker variation, pretty similar with 7 card stud, except for the fact that here, the high spade in the hole splits the pot. In Lowball, the poker variant where the players are initially dealt five cards, is played in a similar way to the 5 card draw, but here the aim is to get the worst hand possible, as the lowest hand qualifies for the pot, not the highest one. It is also easy to play, since the ranking of the cards and hands is the same.

In Liars’ poker, each player is initially dealt one card and is not allowed to look at it. Each player holds his card up so that the other players can see it. After a betting round the players look at their cards and the winner takes the pot. In PaiGow poker you are dealt seven cards you make into a 5 card (high) hand and your aim is to make two poker hands that beat the banker's two hands.

There are also less popular poker variants like Crazy Pineapple, Guts Poker, Big Two and so on, but just because there are people who haven’t heard of it, it doesn’t mean that they’re less likely to win. Not until you know their rules and try them will you know what your wining odds are.
